Quick report
Started at 11am sunny moderate winds that completely died by noon 55 degrees. Moderate to strong winds Wednesday night into Thursday morning kept snow cool for a late start. The snow in the trees towards the road was still completely frozen, while open exposed slopes had 1/2 inch to an inch of corn sitting on top of a supportable crust. This past weekends snow has now bonded really well to the base. Really good corn snow on all aspects and not mushy. Ski cut several test slopes on all aspects none of which released. The only sign of instability was the snow would start to slide up to 1in deep while skinning across slopes that were >35 degrees. I avoided traveling across this terrain. No skin glopping which I was pleasantly surprised about. I skied The Sisters West N facing into Roundtop Lake then skinned up to skiers left of Roundtop and skied that into Winnemucca. Everything skied extremely well for my descents at 1 and 2pm, fast corn snow.
Avalanche
Several avalanches observed. All of which were NW-NE facing and above 9000’. Natural slab released maybe 4-5 days ago at 9700’ NE facing 45 degree on the peak above Roundtop Lake. Small slab released on The Sisters West 10000’ NE facing maybe 2 days ago. Lots of sluff debris looking south to deadwood peak all NW-NE facing on slopes >40 degrees.
