Mild temperatures with sunny skies and light winds today at Carson Pass. Previous East winds have scoured all wind exposed terrain.

Snowpack

We made observations on Carson Pass today.  We found large surface hoar at lower elevations off of the Red Vista Road.  In wind protected northerly terrain we dug a snowpit and found just over 1' of snow.  The snowpack was right side up at this location.  Basal ice existed at the ground with lower density snow up to the surface.  This lower density snow from more recent November storms has been faceting and will continue with our current weather of clear skies through this week.  As we proceeded to higher elevation near Elephants Back, all wind exposed terrain was highly wind scoured.
