Decreasing cloud cover this morning becoming partly cloudy to mostly sunny over Donner Summit. Cloud cover was thicker to the north and east. Southwest winds were moderate to strong along exposed ridges above 8000'.
Snowpack
This morning's cloud cover and light winds at the trailhead made it feel cooler on Donner Summit than recent days. Shortly after mid-morning, cloud cover decreased and skies were partly cloudy to mostly sunny until midday. We experienced a light refreeze of the snow surface on west aspects on our approach with a 1F hard surface crust that was 1-2'' deep. By 10:45am, south aspects were barely ski supportable with soft spring snow. Overnight cloud cover made for a short window for supportable surface snow conditions today. We moved back over to west aspects around 11:45am, but they had already become deep, wet, and sticky by that point. Additional cornice collapses and wet loose avalanches have occurred since the last time we were here 3 days ago. Lots of running water and open water features are now present throughout the area.
