I observed sensitive wind slabs at upper elevations today. There was widespread evidence of wind affected snow from last night's strong winds and snowfall, even down at lower elevations. There were multiple natural wind slabs on upper elevation east aspects that likely failed early this morning. Similar terrain also produced human triggered wind slabs today. Peak sensitivity was likely early this morning, and conditions seemed to get more stubborn during the day. 

There is a potential new buried persistent weak layer that formed during last week's calm weather. In a snowpit on an upper elevation north aspect, I found near surface facets buried 1.5 feet deep that produced a propgating extended column test (ECTP26). The crust facet combos buried below were unreactive in that snowpit.

Point 6 was up in the clouds, but some sun was poking through the clouds at lower elevations. Moderate southwest winds during the day, but evidence of strong winds overnight.

Snowpack

I dug a snowpit on a north aspect at 7800 ft. The total snow depth (HS) was 79" or 200 cm. There was 1.5 ft (45 cm) of recent snow resting on a layer of near surface facets. This interface produced a propagating result in an extended column test on the 26th tap (ECTP29). There were also some easy, non-propagating results on density changes in the recent snow. The two crusts buried below did not produce any results.

I observed two natural wind slabs on upper elevation east aspects, one D1 and the other D1.5. They likely failed early this morning. I also triggered two wind slabs with small cornice kicks in similar terrain.
