Quick report
A short day up the Phantom. More low-density accumulation overnight, combined with some wind, had partially filled in many of yesterday's tracks. As advertised, there's a crust below the 10-30cm of fluff at and below ~4700'. The skiing above in the open was excellent. The crust is firm, supportable, and reasonably edgeable. Up high, loose-dry sluffs ran a moderate distance on steeper slopes. Some windslab lurked beneath the fluff, but none of it moved for us. Glad to hear some other parties on 2-7 today. A number of parties were headed for bigger objectives -- hope they all went great. The lower part of the skintrack is a challenge for many on the firm crust -- ski-crampons were advantageous on the skin-bypass a hundred feet north of the booter. While the booter's short, lightweight boot-crampons would've removed the stress entirely.
