Quick report
Continuous snow (skiable/skinable) on Western and Southern aspects was approximately 5200ft-5900ft. Early in the morning (~8000am) the snow was supportable while booting at elevations ~5000ft, and later in evening (~1830) while descending out, these same slopes were completely unsupportable and each step led to hip-deep postholing. At upper elevations there was little evidence of widespread natural activity on any aspect at upper elevations. Good skiing early, and as the day progressed the newer snow on solar aspects became significantly more saturated, with a bootpen of ~20cm at elevations near 8000ft. Upon final descent out in the evening (~1700-1900) a thin crust layer seemed to be setting up on these upper elevations as the temps cooled and direct sun dissipated. Northern facing terrain between 7000-5500ft remained supportable for skiing with a slight crust forming later in the evening as well. Expected some wet loose complications and triggered one small D1 slide midday on a southern aspect at ~7500ft, slope ~30 degrees. Easily manageable. No formal snowpack assessments conducted. Conditions seemed fairly stable for the objective at hand. It will be interesting to see how the same areas look after the significant warmup the next few days. Expected some wet loose activity on solar aspects. Scant evidence of natural wet loose activity at upper elevations. Did trigger one small D1 slide on a southern aspect at ~7500ft that was easily manageable. As the day progressed the solar aspects became much more saturated. Boot pen was ~20cm while booting up later in the day.
