Inversion season is in full swing. Above 5000 ft temperatures were mild and west winds were light, which made for a pleasent day to be up high.
Snowpack
A shallower snowpack exists on this side of the dome. We hit consistent snow at approximately 5500 ft, but generally observed an HS of only 20-30 cm. Once above treeline, travel became more confident inspiring on ribbons of old drifted snow but quite firm after yesterday's rain. This widespread rain crust existed on all aspects/elevations we traveled with some softening occuring on steep solar aspects thanks to the fickle November sun.
Very little snow is available for wind transport, so the slide-for-life conditions are one of the most significant mountain hazards at this time. With that, equip yourself with the proper 'sharps' gear to reduce the chance of a long sliding fall!
