Quick report
Started at 8:30. Light snow fell for about an hour 9, briefly reducing visibility as we ascended to the Thumbtack. Snow tapered off, winds stayed light with occasional gusts, and surfaces remained firm. North slopes of Chair skied well up top but became chunky and thick lower down as temps rose into the low 40s at Snow Lake. By 10:30, several sluffs were coming off rocky terrain near Chair Peak Lake, with recent slides visible crossing the skin track. We triggered several D1 wet loose avalanches in the north-facing Cupcake Couloir—unexpected for that aspect. Descending from Malakwa was better than expected, as stronger winds kept temps cooler. Slopes stayed firm but transitioned to corn-like conditions by 2 PM. The ascent to Bryant Col was pleasant but warming. While skiing Bryant, two skiers triggered separate avalanches onto other parties. No one was buried or seriously hurt, but conditions were clearly active.
