Obvious upside down 6” or so of new snow. Difficult trailbreaking and extremely difficult ski conditions (watch your knees!!!). Overall felt more like a considerable day. In hand pits we had easy results often on isolation from interfaces in the new snow as well as one sudden clean shear on what seemed like faceted snow 12” down in a shaded area.
Avalanche
Saw 2 skier triggered avalanches on steep rolls in E gully and enchanted forest as we approached. Jumped on a small test slope near the traverse from boulder field to Herman saddle and triggered the slope easily. Initial failure was 6” down but stepped to a deeper plane that seemed to correspond to weaker dry snow buried Thursday, roughly 12” down.
