Extensive hoar layer seen about a mile up the East Fork Wallowa Trail today. 3-4 inches of sugary, unstable snow on surface. North-facing aspect, shaded all day, no wind, elevation approx 5200 feet. Just FYI in case a buried hoar layer becomes a problem later in the season.
