Jakes Peak

Only a few centimeters of new snow was present at the base of Jake's this morning around 9:30am, but snow depth increased with elevation. At the summit, 15-20 cm of light, uncohesive new snow was present, sitting on top of a firm crust. On steeper sections the new snow would slide on the crust in response to a ski cut or turn, but no cracking was observed. On the summit ridget there was a test slope with evidence of wind affect on the surface but I was unable to generate any cracking or observe signs of slab development. It snowed lightly for most of my time in the field but when I returned to Hwy 89 the road was clear of snow and there were large patches of blue in the sky. 

New snow was uncohesive and moved easily on the old crust on steeper slopes. No slab character was observed today.
