Parked the truck past Alturas Lake, bushwhacked and forded across the drainage. Ascended north side of Eureka Peak, E of Jake's Gulch. Hiked in boots up to 8,100', skinned to the top, skied back down to 8,300'.
I was able to get some small cracks in thin, dense wind drifts. None of these traveled more than 30 or 40cm from my location, and they required a good bit of force (skis on jumping) to initiate them. Presumably, these are the aging hard slabs that were constructed from the snow that fell on 11/18 and 11/22.Weather

Front edge of the storm pushing in, but no significant precipitation yet. A few small holes of blue sky opened in the afternoon, but skies were overcast for the most part.
Snowpack
The snowpack on shaded aspects here consists of a 5-15cm thick stack of icy, crusty snow with 20-25cm of well-developed facets on top. In the lower portion of these facets, grains were cupped and striated and up to ~3mm in size. See photo below.
