We experienced a few small, localized collapses at lower and middle elevations. These involved the 11/30 weak layer. There was occasionally some cracking associated with this collapsing visible on the snow surface. These collapses stopped occurring after we climbed above ~8,000'.
Weather
Afternoon/evening tour. Clear over the valleys, bands of stratocumulus decks hanging over the mountains. Calm winds. Temperatures began to quickly drop after the sun disappeared.
Snowpack
Much/most of the slab overlying 11/30 has faceted away in this location. Continuing to see ECTXs with moderate force and CPST SF with cut lengths in the 20-25% range and the weak layer still looks awful. Interpreting these results as a lack of slab, not weak layer improvement. This will continue to make avalanches once loaded and continues to be concerning where recently wind loaded or where the slab is thicker and has more meat.
