We left the rain in Fernie today hoping for a lower freezing level in Crowsnest Pass. Thanks to a tow truck driver who gave us the heads up on the Atlas staging access road being icy, we staged at the cattle guard. Rain turned to snow around 1550m and snow depth increased as we gained elevation. There was no visibility so we steered clear of avalanche terrain and took the day to do some rescue practice. It snowed most of the day at 2000m and as we left there was 30cm of new snow. Winds were variable direction and intensity throughout the day.
