Below the treeline, there was generally a weak snow pack that was from 50 to 70cm deep. In most places, I could punch my pole easily to the ground. I did get one collapse in a meadow next to a creek, and in some more open sun-exposed areas, there were crusts in the snowpack. I did see one Wet Loose avalanche below treeline.
Near and above treelline the snowpack felt stronger and the weak layers more stubborn than I expected. In snow profiles on east and northeast there was a pencil hard layer above the facets which were about 50cm below the surface, This crust meant snow tests were not very reactive but I would not trust this layer widely accross the snowpack and if you found a weak area it could fail and result in a large avalanche.
