Quick Observation
Spent three days (Feb 14-16) in the area - summary below: - Access&exit: skins from the car, ski crampons were handy. The exit was very sporty with lots of ice, rocks and thin coverage by Feb16th. Spikes/crampons would not be a bad idea if you want to preserve your skis and limbs. - Snow conditions: 15-40 cm of dry uncohesive powder, all aspects and elevations (1500-2400m) on top of thick crust. No slab properties or other instabilities noted. No evidence of wind slabs on the days travelled. Some cornices on NW/N/NE aspects. Lots of old avalanche debris to watch out for, with enough coverage to catch you off guard. Lots of tracks coming down the Matier glacier and Slalok main central run. - Weather: Feb 14 cloud and flurries, cold, no wind. Feb 15 sunny and cold, very little wind, got cloudy and flurries end of the day. Feb 16 cloudy and cold, flurries. Overall about 5 cm of accumulation in those three days with little wind.
