First trip in the local hills. Lots of wind effect today, odd SE wind. Did ski cut a pocket of storm slab on firm surface down 50 cm, and cracking BTL open glade NE asp. HS = 170 cm at 1700 m, 220 cm at treeline.
Snowpack
20-30 cm unconsolidated HST, likely facetted from recent cold temps. Wind effect all open areas, odd SE wind - moderate. Resistant planar / broken hand shears down 50 cm on old faceting crust (maybe Feb 7?). Probing Jan 28 felt to be 65-85 cm down. Evidence of previous avalanche cycle in steep terrain features. Good skiing in protected features.
