Quick Observation
Skied The Half Moon with some of the boys today (Jan 18th). Rather wind affected (wind pressed) at the entrance, 15 cm 1F resistance overlying Facets to ground. The lack of a dense slab in the snowpack boosted our confidence. Wind affected and grabby snow (with many rocks) gradually improved to nice surface-faceted out sunny turns lower down. Sa (Skier accidental) sz 1.5 after we descended the upper pitch, right about 2200 m. We traversed right lower down, to avoid being beneath a party that was potentially dropping in behind us. First skier triggered the slope, (crown broke above him) skied away easily, no involvement. Windslab failure, 20-30 cm deep, 20-30 m wide, ran for 50 m. Glad we all avoided the convex roll proper. See attached photos. HS varied between 90-115 down at the creek at 1650 m.
