Quick Observation

Spent the day up above the McDermott cabin. Saw a natural size 2 wind slab avalanche out of east facing terrain in the alpine. Looked like a chunk of cornice fell off from ridge crest and triggered the slab below the rocks. During our travels we had some cracking off the tips of our skis in the wind slab, but quite stubborn and small. The cornices in the area are well developed and should be given a wide berth. The crust at lower elevations and on solar aspects was supportive but didn't ruin the skiing. We could see some impressive dark clouds moving in ahead of the pineapple express. Heres hoping it comes down as snow and not rain ?
