Avalanche Information

There was active wind loading throughout the day and the wind gusts were strong. The slope was loaded by a cross wind and from snow deposition coming off Whymper 1. A group of three descending skiers appeared to be testing wind lip on a steep aspect of the approach to Whymper Col. They released a small wind slab which then propagated giving way to a size 2 avalanche. The avalanche ran about 300 m and two of the approaching parties below had to scramble to get clear of the avalanche. The avalanche stopped very close to a group. It was a close call.
