Awesome snow above 1400 meters with 25-40cm over a rain crust. Some aspects (NE and NW) were starting to develop inconsistent soft slabs in sheltered areas that moved easily with a hand shear on a 30-degree slope. Great skiing on mellow terrain today overall though. Watch the last 1km of the ski to the lot - it is still thin with a few rocks showing through.
Variable soft slabs on NE and NW sheltered aspects but no whumpfing or cracking. Where slabs had not developed on those same aspects, the 25-40cm of new snow was deep and fluffy. Where there was a slab, hand shears produced easy results, and a quick compression test produced a sudden failure on a rain crust down 20 cm just below the ridge. Below the crust was about 20cm of 1F snow that sits on a thin variable layer of 2F/sugary snow before returning to 1F down to the ground.
