Quick Observation

Made a larger loop around a few aspects in the Connaught area and found excellent ski conditions on alpine slopes. Skied Video N, 8812 Bowl and STS. Approached Video N with extreme caution, but found no signs of instability and enjoyed a beautiful run. The moraines lower down were very thin and sharky but afforded serviceable travel. 8812 has of course been skied heavily. STS appeared to have sloughed any instabilities away, but we tested that hypothesis before fully committing with no results. Again, great ski quality and a minor mid-line water ice choke was avoidable without needing the rope. We were pleasantly surprised not to observe slab properties in the new snow on any of our runs and experienced no signs of instability or even any meaningful sloughing. We actively avoided anywhere we thought might be harbouring preserved surface hoar and did not see or feel any signs of it. The snowpack is still thin and faceted, and I will be very wary of any inputs that could give the surface snow some cohesion going forward.
