Quick Observation
Skied Quartz 1 from the col and then did the Twin Cairns traverse S to N. Natural size 1.5 along the Quartz 1 ridge that failed as a cohesive slab, likely from yesterday/overnight wind loading. Saw what appeared to be a recent size 2 where they always deliver on Quartz, where the cornice builds. Interestingly, you can see the recent slab in red, and an old slab in yellow - the bed surface had already reloaded by the time I took the picture. Decent coverage given the low overall HS - the last warm spell put down a solid base that is still intact. But mixed bag over that layer - from powder, to recent wind slab, to nothing. Coming down E face Quarts was quite grabby with the recent wind that created breakable crust. No significant obs on Twin Cairns traverse including coming down the N end that is steeper with a bit of a roll. We need more snow or we'll be rock climbing in the alpine in April ....
