Avalanche Information
When traversing the top of evening ridge in search of a mellower line off the top our group purposely ski cut an open slope and initiated a size 2 avalanche. No groups were below. The initial crown was 30-40cm deep and ran on the freezing rain crust. Prior to initiation the snow was showing signs of being quite headwind-affected with a firm, crusty surface. The avalanche ran ~200m until the open slope turned into mature trees. The avalanche also propagated across a tree island to the left and caused a separate smaller depression to slide. This depression showed signs of strong cross-loading and the crown at the top of this opening was 50-100cm deep due to the deposition in this pocket.
