Pow on a Crust-Facet sandwich

Beneath the new powder, we are seeing loose facets, a persistent weak layer, over a crust. We know this is a perfect combination for large avalanches. Given the best snow is in sheltered areas, we made the easy choice to practice movement skills in meadows and open mellow trees. The views were great today and we saw a few loose avalanches out of steep alpine slopes.
