- Cracking, Poor Snowpack Structure
Skinned from Little Mountain up Goal Post to the ridge. Going up, poor snow structure, weak snow, difficult to skin. About 100 vertical feet down from the ridge in the historical starting zone, I found extensive natural cracking. Cracks shooting 100s of feet in multiple directions. 2 feet snow depth. A very stiff 4-5" thick windslab sitting atop junk. Just above, 6" of snow and lots of brush. Just below, 2' of snow depth but no wind slab. Slope angle here was 10 to 15 degrees so the windslab cracked but did not move.
