Cracking

Collapsing
widespread

I think I heard more whumpfs on Sunday than all previous lifetime whumpfs combined. Our party of 3 triggered 8 total. 5 on the approach to Microdot saddle. We turned around in the boulder field, because we got an eery collapse with widespread cracks and whumpf. I'm not sure if our ears were playing tricks on us, but we thought we heard large whumpf coming from across valley, hundreds or a thousand of feet away. The party of 4 touring ahead of us triggered a 1-2' slab within the boulder field about 50-150' wide, near the top of the boulder field W face 4500', while they skied down. We then went to ski below friendship pass, and got 1 whumpf in the valley bottom near Independence Mine, and 2 more touring up to the base of Friendship pass. Ski quality was ok, perhaps 1-4" of powder on top of a dense supportable layer. Many natural avalanches all around. Looks like 2 people skied Lost couloir with no visible avalanches.
