Quick report
We toured in Virginia Lakes to look at skiing the poop chutes off Dunderberg. Driving up the 395, it appeared that D'bergs head was in the clouds but this was only isolated to the north aspect. Due to childcare, we didn't get on skis until 9.30am so the snowpack was already warming and with no breeze, the previous nights cloud cover very much kept the "oven door" shut on the snowpack. Due to our late start, we could see 2 crews approximately 1hr ahead of us. We made the call to climb until 1130 as boot pen was already ~20cms in some southern aspects of the ascent. Although there was no visual clues of roller balls, we were content to turn back half way up as the snow was just too hot. The 2 crews skied off the summit at midday which looked good but the latest time for a descent considering the lack of overnight freezing. We were unfortunately 1hr too late.
