Toured Garry Lookout Ridge today. I got a late start due to the cold and my hope that it would clear up. While the skies never cleared, the sun did briefly show its face, and surprisingly initiated some rollerballs on steep slopes despite the cold temps (-6 at the trailhead at 9:30am) Winds were light until past noon, when powerful gusts blew snow every which way and served as a sign for me to get out of there and avoid exposure to the cold. Surprisingly, the ridge lines only showed a slight wind effect. N slopes were very deep and dry. S less so, with a noticeable crust a foot down or so. I got some cracking on my skin track on steep areas that had seen some wind, and I was able to release a very small soft slab on a steep N facing rollover I think everyone knows this already but it’s worth mentioning that the snowpack is still very thin below 4500ft, so choose your exits wisely.
