Quick report
Walked up the Ridgeline to top of Ghoulies. Dropped off the eastern ridge about halfway up at 6488' and assessed snow. In open areas there was an easily breakable crust under about 2 cm of fresh snow. There was about 10 cm of soft faceted snow under this crust. Crust was not strong and was weakening and would be easily skiable. HS170 in pit with 4F 130-167 under crust. 1F from 130-100 and pencil to bottom of pit, likely to ground. Shovel shear revealed an interface 45 cm down and a second larger 70 cm down at the 4F to F interface. Neither was receive in CT or ECT tests. Prying on the column eventually broke it but it took a lot of effort! Crusts were the name of the game. Some trees had melted and frozen around the trees creating 4-6" ice crusts that acted like Mario Kart speed boosts when you hit them. Don't end up with your tips under them. NW to E had an easily breakable and skiable crust in open areas. Anywhere people skied and compacted was more brutal as the old tracks acted like a hard ice crust. Caution was warranted in the trees due to aforementioned ice. South and SW faces had a 2* hard crust under the 1-2" of new snow. Picture is from retirement bowl. Skied out of Ghoulies on NW route and stuck to tight trees to find unskied lines. Hiked radio towers and decended North to Hellroaring and hiked to HR peak and skied western ridge line. Crust was supportive and skiing was not bad. Below Taylor Creek road proved more challenging with same tree ice rings and old tracks.
