Quick report
We toured up Sunburst Valley through Taylor Pass to the summit of Pastoral, skied the SW face of Pastoral and exited via Bertha Creek. Of note, we took a winding route just past Taylor Pass to avoid skinning under two large unreleased glide cracks. We did not experience any cracking or collapses in the snowpack during our tour, but we did experience some light/moderate surface sloughing on steep terrain. The overall quality of the snowpack in the Pastoral area is loose snow, covered in hoar frost, with signs of faceting at least in the top 30cm. We dug a pit at 4130ft, below a NE facing summit chute of Pastoral. I observed buried surface hoar @40cm and @55cm on the blocks I removed after the CT and ECT. Our ECT did not show propagation in this location, but the overall structure of the snowpack does not give a lot of confidence.
Avalanche
tons of glide cracks have release everywhere , but several that have not yet released are above the normal route between Taylor Pass->Pastoral, and above the normal Gold Pan skin track. There are also some big glide cracks on the Tincan Proper down route. See pics for details.
