Snowpack

Widespread surface hoar 7mm at all elevations. More prominent on shady, open, protected slopes. Will be interesting with snow in forecast. We dug a pit on a north aspect at 2140m, A melt freeze crust just above the ground gave a hard column test result (failed below crust sz 2 facets) (23rd hit) uneven 'break' result. No results in our propagation test (ECTx). We also dug a pit in the sun at 2140m. No fractures observed in that column test, did not do propagation test. October crust and facets was found in the sunny pit as well but much more thinner and seemed to be healing..? Moist snow in sun. slight surface temperature crust in sun, beginning to break down, probably solidifying again at night time temps..
