Even in the trees there were multiple small natural slabs that had broken in steep terrain. These were all D1, and about 30-50cm deep. Seemed to be running on snow that fell at the onset of yesterday's storm.

below freezing temperatures but the sun was strong enough to melt snow off the trees.

Snowpack

new snow is upside down, unconsolidated, and prone  to sliding. Switchbacks and test slopes were sliding. Whumphing and ssettling of the new snow. SE winds had turned the surface into a breakable wind slab that was 10-15cm thick. This was sitting over veryt loose dry snow about 2-3 ft deep.
