Billy Glacier to Happiness

A thinner snowpack was observed at the northern end of our forecast zone compared to the upper elevations of the intermountain and maritime zones. Runs coming down onto Billy Glacier that usually have good coverage this time of year had exposed rocks and thins spots. With limited amounts of precipitation in the continental zone since the avalanche cycle in late January the HS at 6000 ft on the face of Happiness was only about 1 meter. Surface Hoar was widespread and found at all elevations traveled, 2-6 mm in size. This could become a concern later in the week if enough snow falls to create a slab on top.

Overall, no signs of instability in areas traveled, skiing and climbing north and northeast slopes up to 45 degrees.
