The snow on Sunday was the first significant snowfall the area had received in a while. Deeper snowpack makes it harder to affect this layer, but a new snow load or another avalanche problem could 'step down' to this weak layer.

Overcast at the start of the day, and then it started snowing with a steady wind. Snow got heavier and visibility got worse as we were out. Driving North back to Fairbanks, the snow stopped right at Boulder Creek. Everything North of that was completely dry.
Snowpack
We dug on a SW aspect at 4500'. The depth was about a meter. I wanted to check out a shallower snowpack and the ground facets. There was a right-side-up snowpack until about 35cm of facets. Our ECT could not affect this layer.
