Togwotee Pass

The snowpack south of the highway between 8000-9500 feet is shallow.  Average snow depth is in the 2-3 foot range in sheltered terrain.  No obvious signs of instability were observed today and a few old crowns 1-2' thick in steep terrain that were estimated over a week old. The snowpack is generally weak, with slabs in some locations that hold some potential for propagation.  The likelihood for triggering is on the low end of the scale but cannot be ruled out entirely.  It has been 1 week since the last loading event.  We observed widespread facets and surface hoar (up to 10 cm!) throughout this zone with the exception of solar aspects.
