If you want to venture into the Tetons this weekend, expect to walk until around 8,400 feet before consistent skinning can be found—an average HS of 35cm (a little over a foot) of settled snow at Surprise Lake.
Foot Pen: worst of both worlds, ranging from 6-8 inches anywhere with tree canopy to drifts up to two feet anywhere the wind worked.
If ice climbing, hunting, or generally recreating in the mountains this weekend, avoid deeper (well-connected) areas of wind-drifted snow on top of lower-density snow that may remain sensitive.
