Quick report
Route: Whimpy’s Cracking in fresh windslabs 8,300-9,300’ just lee of ridge tops. Slabs seems mostly confined to immediately lee of ridge tops at these elevations. Wx: Daytime warming with some clouds building in pm. Scattered clouds in am, broken sky in pm. Surface conditions: Wet snow in top 5 cm in pm below 8,000’ on solar aspects. Scouring on south aspects at ridge top, with wind affected snow in lee areas. Below surface: 2/19 interface was identified 40-70cm from surface on aspects traveled. Consistently poor structure and propagation found on South and South east aspects between 7,500 and 9,400’. East aspects above 9,000' at least did not have crust structure and did not show propagation. Pit results: S aspect. 7,400. 23 deg. Poor structure. Fair strength, HS 140cm. ECTP 11 below 2/19 MFcr. Down 40 cm. SE aspect, 7,400. HS 163. 20 deg. ECTP 17 on 2/19 MFcr down 45cm. On <1mm rounded facets. A few SH feathers were found. SE aspect. 9240’. 29 deg slope. HS. 300cm. ECTP 28 down 70cm above 2/19 MFcr. Previously windloaded slope. E aspect. 9,300’. HS. 300cm. ECTN 15 down 35 on 2/19 interface which presented as a hardness change.
