The day started off sunny and very cold with light North winds. As the day progressed only modest temperature recoveries were observed and towards the end of the day thick clouds rolled in.
Snowpack
Large preserved surface hoar was found 80cm deep on a sheltered, wind loaded, NE aspect, at 6000ft elevation. The surface hoar did not propogate in our ECT or PST. Also found in our pit was near surface facets and a steep temperature gradient in the upper snowpack. Wind loading on N aspects and new surface hoar was also observed on our tour. In hasty pits on a predominently E aspects we did not find the decomposing sun crust/facet combo that we have found elsewhere.
