The rain/ wet dense snow helped move things along in terms of buried weak layer sensitivity. Snowpack tests confirmed buried Surface Hoar is feeling the added weight and stress and becoming more vulnerable to fail from a rider or machine. Faceted grains above and below the Grinch-Christmas crust provide a widespread, collapsible interface and will be tested with additional snowfall in the coming days.
