Quick report
Went out to Kwolh today. Sled road hasn’t been groomed but people have been on it, it’s actually in pretty decent shape, though the last 1/2 mi or so before where you park to skin up got pretty sporty for my non-sledneck self. At the sled parking there was a very thin rime “skin” on top from that rime event yesterday, but not a crust per se. It wouldn’t affect the skiing much at all, just make it a bit noisier. That crust was only at the bottom, it disappeared after I started skinning. Snow was great. Definitely some wind effect near the top, and areas where some mild windslab was forming, but everything seemed well bonded, no instabilities noted, no cracking, no moving, nothing. Snow was great on the ride down. Surf’s up! Perfect powsurf conditions. 🏄♂️ Did 2 runs on the east face, and one more northerly through the trees back down to the sled. All great. It’ll probably still be good tomorrow but the sun will start affecting it soon (and causing lots of tree bombs in the trees; that wasn’t happening too much today but definitely will as the things warm up). Seems like snow up high and in protected areas might stay wintery for a day or two, but then looks like we have a temporary spring window like last week before the rain… only this time hopefully with no rain! At least now we sort of have a base. Bring on more snow! ❄️
