Early tour up Ball Butte. Dug pit with the following rather alarming result: CTV and ECTV…failure on isolation in each case. 180cm HS with repeated sudden planar cash registering 40cm down on a facets/new snow interface. Major wind slabs throughout tour ranging from wind deposition powder to styrofoam to full windboard L: ball butte E: 7360’ A: ENE S: 21deg T: 0815, 11f, howling wind, scattered visibility with low clouds and blowing snow interspersed with sun Used conservative decision making after finding very touchy snowpack, but encountered no instability for the rest of the day in situ.
