Whumpf/collapse/crack across a 21degree, NW aspect, sheltered by trees, small slope approximately 30ftx15ft in size occurred when skiing down a skin track I had just put in for our mountain travel and rescue class to haul a litter up a shallow slope to the weather station during a training event. The collapse occurred on a weak layer 21cm from top on 1-2cm buried surface hoar. We also experienced a smaller 5'x5' collapse/whump nearby about 50 ft lower in elevation.
