We toured up to 2030 ft on Center Ridge to practice snow profiles. Skies were broken with thin clouds, winds were calm, air temperature was near 30F, and there was no precipitation. We did not see active wind transport of recent snow today, but we did see evidence of Wednesday’s wind loading at upper elevations. We dug at 2030 ft on a WNW facing, 25 degree slope that had 220 cm of snow. We found the Feb14 SH buried down 50 cm in our profiles, and it ranged from 4mm-20mm in size! This layer showed instability in our snowpack tests, with CT18 SP and ECTP 23 results. We observed a fresh layer of widespread surface hoar developing on the snow surface. It was roughly 2-4mm in size and was present from start to finish on our tour.
