Quick report
Leaving the car at 7:20am, temps were a chilly 18F. Temps quickly warmed up, with virtually no wind until we reached ~11.5k ft, where we were met with a light downslope breeze -- it was downright warm below 11k with the sun and very little wind. Snow was a "mixed bag" depending on aspect and elevation to say the least -- cold, settled faceted powder in selected sheltered polar aspects, supportable windboard, unsupportable windboard, mank, and "al dente pseudo corn." We dropped around 12:45pm from ~12.4k feet and had an enjoyable ski down the SE face of Checkered Demon. We did step into avalanche terrain skier's left of the proper SE face. We didn't note any signs of instability throughout the tour, with the exception of a few very small (i.e., TV size) panels of old wind slab that we could kick off fairly easily when unsupported. We did not perform any stability tests. The moraine up to the bench below Bishop Bowl still has continuous snow, though we did end up booting the top half of the moraine given the old avalanche debris. The ski down the moraine was sporty.
