Merry Christmas from the High Sierra Snowcat Team! What a transformation from 2" at 2am last night to almost 4ft at 3:45pm - New snow amounts are hard to determine with winds increasing at 1pm, but about 45" at 9,700' and some meaty wind drifts over two snowcats deep. - Serious whiteout conditions. - Both 395 and road up to VA Lakes are Closed please check Caltrans and Mono County page for updates. Back to shoveling.
Avalanche
Multiple D1 - D2 Wind Slabs from snowcat-triggers (mostly D1 with one D2) and one notable natural. Running pretty far for the small size of slope. All observed avalanches were on northeast and east aspects near treeline, about 9500'.
