Quick report

Left the parking lot at the Lee Vining Creek bridge at 7am. Roads were still wet from the previous nights precipitation. Snowline was around 8800' feet, but above that there was clearly rain that had fallen before the snow, leaving a raincrust that was covered with 1-2cm of fresh heavy snow. As we skinned up the V-Bowl area the sun was at work melting this top layer of fresh snow but the rain crust remained stubborn, dashing any hopes of corn snow developing. We decided to descent the Banana Chute, hoping to find a supportable crust to decend on. Once in the chute there was much evidence of the previous days warm weather. Very large roller balls and wet slide debris from Saturday made for an engaging descent. The Lee Vining creek area is melting fast. Skiing back to the bridge is no longer possible.
