Skied up the Taiya Glacier. Probed 240 cms to ice. Moderate cold north wind all day with loading at the peaks. Variety of snow surfaces depending on aspect, elevation and angle including sun crust on steep solar, 15 cms powder in low angle areas below tree line, and wind affect above tree line in wind exposed areas. In the alpine there are significant differences between the high south and north aspects with the south continuing to be a layer cake of shallow snowpack, facets and crusts. North high aspects alpine on the glaciers is deeper and tends to feel more consolidated with stiffer layering. On Taiya approximately 30 cms of wind affected (skiable) powder was overlaying the last surface which required effort to push my ski pole through. No whumpfing, shooting cracks or drum like sounds.
