Snowpack

Instability Comment

Shallow loose wind slabs from the storm were pretty reactive on test slopes but no propagation I kept to 30 degrees or less for the most part. These slabs were generally 2 to 4 inches deep. Snow was wind affected on most aspects with pockets of powder and some exposed rain crust at lower elevations

I did not dig a pit to inspect persistent weak layers. Boot penetration was less the 6 inches everywhere I checked. Took some effort to force my pole beyond 6 inches in most areas. Crust from sun, wind, rain appeared very supportive in my travels. Best skiing was on protected NNW
