Quick report
In the lower areas of the Gulf of Slides, our avalanche course found conditions to be in line with the avalanche forecast. We practiced column tests, but any weak layers were trapped beneath one or more ice crusts at this location. We noted warm air temperatures, as snowmelt was dripping from the trees despite the cloudy skies. Light snow began was we started our descent (2pm). Winds were unusually calm. The skiing in the gullies sounded extremely loud, and we were happy to stick to skiing the runout zone of Gully 1. Though the ice bulge in the Gully 1 is quite buried in snow, it appears that no large avalanches have reached the runout zones of Gully 1 or 2… yet.
